On July 27, 2025, laughter and good vibes filled the air as the Stanford Chinese Faculty & Family Club hosted a vibrant summer gathering at the scenic Stanford Campus Recreation Association (SCRA). From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, members and their families came together for an unforgettable afternoon of fun, friendship, and fresh air. The highlight? Pickleball fever! For many, it was their first time wielding a paddle — but that didn’t stop anyone from diving right in. Cheers and playful competition echoed across the courts as players of all ages rallied, laughed, and discovered a new favorite pastime. As the sun dipped low, the energy stayed high, wrapping up a perfect day of community and connection.

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the Stanford Chinese Faculty and Family Club successfully hosted an inspiring talk titled “Starting from Ink: Rethinking Contemporary Art” at Stanford University’s LKC Center.

We were honored to feature Zhang Yu, a pioneering figure in Chinese contemporary ink art. As an experimental ink artist, independent curator, seasoned editor, and prominent art critic, Mr. Zhang has played a significant role in shaping the dialogue around contemporary ink art. His works are part of major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and have been featured in leading international exhibitions on Chinese contemporary art.

Zhang delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “Starting from Ink: A View of Contemporary Art”, drawing upon over four decades of his artistic exploration. Through a series of critical, inquiry-driven keywords, he shared his unique perspective on the evolution of ink art—from traditional ink painting to brushless performances, ink-based installations, and conceptual works. His lecture proposed the compelling idea of moving “beyond East and West”, offering new frameworks for understanding the cultural and philosophical dimensions of contemporary ink art.

The event provided attendees with a rare opportunity to engage directly with one of the most influential voices in Chinese contemporary art. Many found the session profoundly insightful, gaining a deeper appreciation for the evolving methodologies and global significance of ink art today.

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, the Stanford Chinese Faculty and Family Club successfully hosted an insightful panel discussion titled “AI in Scientific Research.”

We were honored to feature three distinguished Stanford professors:

Prof. Xiang Qian – specializing in Pain Medicine and clinical applications of AI,
Prof. Xiaoliang Qi – an expert in Quantum Physics and AI in material science,
Prof. Le Cong – renowned for his work in Biomedical Research and AI-driven gene editing.
The discussion was skillfully moderated by Dr. Pei Cao, Vice President of Engineering at YouTube and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, whose pioneering work bridges large-scale computing and AI applications.

The event fostered vibrant discussions and offered valuable insights into how artificial intelligence is transforming the landscape of scientific discovery. Many attendees found the session both highly informative and deeply inspiring.

As we joyfully welcomed the Year of the Snake, our 2025 Chinese New Year celebration was a wonderful gathering filled with warmth and camaraderie. With over 60 esteemed members of our community joining the festivities, the evening was a true testament to the strong bonds and shared spirit that bring us together. Laughter, heartfelt conversations, and cultural appreciation made the event a memorable one for all.

On July 28th of 2024, the Stanford Chinese Faculty & Family Club hosted a delightful social gathering at the Stanford Campus Recreation Association. From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, members and their families came together to enjoy an afternoon filled with camaraderie and enjoyment. The event took place in the beautiful surroundings of SCRA, where attendees participated in various recreational activities. Pickleball was the highlight of the day, with many people trying it for the first time and thoroughly enjoying it. The enthusiasm was palpable as participants played well into the evening, making the most of the opportunity to engage in this fun and energetic sport.

We are delighted to share the highlights of our recent celebration held at Chef Chu’s, marking the arrival of 2024 with joy and festivity. The event saw an impressive turnout of over 70 esteemed members of our community, including notable attendees such as Nobel Laureate Steve Chu, Thomas Südhof and the first Chinese tenured female professor, Teresa Wang . It was a night of cultural reverence, unity, and joyous reunions.

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce the election of two new members to the SCFFC board: Shipeng Fu and Li Jiang. Their commitment and contributions are invaluable to our community. As we reflect on the memorable evening spent at Chef Chu’s, it is the collective spirit and enthusiasm of our members that stand out the most. On October 8th, Stanford’s Chinese academic community gathered for an insightful dialogue titled “GenAI: Beyond the Hype and Under the Hood”. Featuring prominent faculty members Prof. DiYi Yang, Prof. Tengyu Ma, and Prof. Jiajun Wu, the event dove deep into the intricacies of AI, demystifying its potential. The Stanford Chinese Faculty and Family Club (SCFFC) celebrated 2023 Chinese New Year at The Mandarin restaurant in Menlo Park. Over 60 Stanford Faculty and Family members attended the holiday banquet. The owner of The Mandarin invited the lion dance team and set off firecrackers for us. We wish all members to have a wonderful and prosperous year of Rabbit!!

The Stanford Chinese Faculty and Family Club (SCFFC) celebrated 2019 Chinese New Year at the Chef Chu’s restaurant, the same place as last year. Over 50 Stanford Faculty and Family members attended the holiday banquet. Chef Chu’s is getting more famous this year after the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”, directed by Jon Chu, son of Laurence Chu who is the owner of the restaurant.

On Nov.4, 2018, Prof. Yi Cui in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University gave the talk of “Batteries Now and Future”. With EV car everywhere, this is certainly a very popular topic. The tickets were sold out a week before the event. Prof. Cui talked about many perspectives of battery, including high energy density that can be reached, battery life time, battery safety, available resource to make battery, battery recycling and energy storage. He also related his research in the discussed area, such as nanomaterials for energy storage, photovotalics, topological insulators, biology and environment. He has founded Amprius Inc. to commercialize technologies from his group. Many questions were asked and audience was very engaged. What a great presentation!
